The Ultimate Technical SEO Checklist for 2021

Technical SEO

The initial step towards having a complete Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) strategy is to improvise your technical SEO. Ensure that your website is in the perfect form, which will help you lead to more spontaneous traffic, high ranking keywords, and conversions.

Regardless of what industry your business or organisation is in, the standards of specialised SEO have never been more significant. That is why people prefer internet marketing agency services.

Google has announced that in May 2021, they will be launching their update of Google Page Experience, which will include the signals of page experience as a ranking factor.

Tick Off The Ultimate Technical SEO Checklist!

So, without any further delay, let us look at the ultimate technical SEO checklist for 2021.

1. Website Speed

To improve your website’s search rankings, ensure that your website’s loading speed is fast and that all your pages are in working condition.

The optimisation of your website speed is a necessity and not an option. The more time your website loads its content, the greater number of possible customers you lose. According to Google, a delay of one second in your mobile page loading reduces your conversion rate by 20%.

It is proven that your website speed plays a significant role in your site performance and engagement. This speed affects the visibility of your website, page visits, and conversions. That is why your page must load as fast as possible. A proven digital marketing agency can help you. If your website is built using WordPress, you can use WordPress website development services to increase the website speed.

2. Crawl and look for crawl errors on your website

You will have to ensure that your website does not have any crawl errors. When a search engine tries to access a page but fails to do so, a crawl error occurs.

There are plenty of tools available to help you with crawl errors. Look for crawl errors once you have crawled your website. While crawling your website for errors, you should implement all the redirects with 301 redirect and redirect any 4xx and 5xx error pages.

3. Repair broken outbound and internal links

Both humans and search engines can undergo a poor user experience due to a poor link structure. It isn’t a very pleasing experience for users to click a link on your site and see that it does not work.

You must ensure that you check for

  • links that are being redirected to another page using 301 or 302 redirects,
  • links that open up to a 4xx error page,
  • orphaned pages,
  • too deep of an internal link structure.

4. Remove any duplicate content

Ensure that your website does not have any duplicate content. This duplication can occur due to page replication, having various versions of the same site, and copied or scraped content. Google must be allowed to access only one version of your website.

Read Here: Why You Should Avoid Duplicate Content on Your Website

You can fix duplicate content by

  • Establishing 301 redirects to the main URL.
  • Applying no-index or canonical tags on identical contents.
  • Authorising the preferred domain and parament handling in Google Search Console
  • Deleting duplicate contents if possible

5. Switch your website to HTTPS protocol

In 2014, Google announced that HTTPS is a ranking factor so, if you are still using the HTTP protocol, you must switch to HTTPS. This will protect the data of your visitors and make sure that the provided data is encrypted.

6. Ensure that you have a clean structural URL

Excessively complex URLs will cause hindrance for crawlers by forming a high number of unnecessary URLs to similar content on your website. The Googlebot will therefore be unable to index your website’s content properly.

Fix this issue by cutting off unnecessary parameters to shorten your URL.

7. Make sure that your website has an improvised XML sitemap

XML sitemaps inform the search engines about the structure of your website and what content to index in the search engine result pages.

To check whether there are any index errors in your XML sitemap, see the report of Index Coverage in Google Search Console.

8. Ensure that your website has an advanced robots.txt file

Every website includes a crawl budget or a limited number of pages that must be included in a crawl; robots.txt files instruct the search engine on crawling your website. It is necessary to make sure that the most important pages of your website are being indexed.

9. Schema Markup

Structured data, also known as schema markup, is the code installed on your website which helps the search engines to provide relevant information to the user’s search.

Most of the search results show the URL, title tag, and meta description. Adding schema markup to your website boosts your SEO ranking and efforts. It also makes your website more attractive to online users.

Schema markup is essential as it informs the search engines about the purpose of your content. By proper implementation of the structured data on your website, you will increase the chances of your website gaining higher click-through rates.

The digital marketing industry has changed profoundly over the last decade. 2020 has been an extremely challenging year for business owners and market players because of the slowing down of global trade and economic downturn.

We have seen various challenges that made the marketers stay on high alerts, such as changing consumer behaviour, market trend shifting, strict rules and regulation of the industry, and unexpected updates of business algorithms.

Ensure that your business’s technical SEO checklist is ready so that you can be on top of the search engine results and gain more organic traffic to your website. With the help of Leap Digital, an Essex SEO agency, you can rank on the top of google search results.
